Particular cases of depression are linked to hereditary factors. There are certain hereditary forms which are related to bipolar disorder and to some degree major depression. The disorder becomes prominent due to the stressful surrounding state of affairs which tend to improve the condition.

Depressive disorder can be less profound but long-lasting ( more than two years) as compared to a superior depressive disorder, a situation identified as dysthymia. It is difficult to discover this depressive condition externally if the individual has a high level of endurance. You can suffer from two forms of depressive disorder at the same time if you are suffering from dysthemia, because you can have short periods of infrequent clinical depression.

Loss of interest in activities in day to day activities which an individual must usually enjoy connected with long periods of low mood, are vivid symptoms of a major depression. When someone is irritable, angry and perpetually sad it means he or she is down. You may find that communicating with individuals, sleeping and eating are challenging.

A less profound but long lasting depressive disorder called dysthemia can continue for a period of roughly two to three years. This form of a state of depression may be hard to notice in some individuals with better levels of endurance who may be "just" functioning in a normal way.

During winter months some persons suffer from a kind of depressive disorder due to deficiency of sunlight which is called seasonal affective disorder (SAD). During periods of plenty sunlight SAD suffers are very happy and more friendly and when its cold they become sad and antisocial.

If your stamina level is high it may be hard for persons to notice this case of depression, since you may look natural from outside. It is possible for an individual with dysthemia to experience some intermittent bouts of a major state of depression.

Of course, as with all health problems there are various degrees of severity and it is possible to have minor levels of depression whereby the problem is more manageable. With help it is possible to function even though feeling bad about themselves and their lives.

But depression can be objectively analysed and self healed. It does not take a lot to control your mind to be free from depression. Even in the worst of circumstances, a clear thinking mind is of more value than a mind that is depressed and afraid to act.

Stressful circumstances that can result in depression may occur at any age from infancy through old age. Hereditary depression also may occur at any age, and it tends to recur. Very often, it alternates with periods of extreme euphoria--a condition often referred to as manic-depression.
